Mindfulness is the awareness of all that is present in the moment, without judgment and with acceptance. I have been practicing Mindfulness-Based Cognitive therapy for over 20 years in my private practice and I have learned that the skills have been useful when working with a number of emotional and spiritual challenges. Grief is one of those challenges. This therapy is a gentle way of paying attention as I sit with a grieving client. It is also an important skill to teach a person who is grieving so they are better able to cope with the feelings and circumstances of grieving. I have offered grief workshops in the past, and I believe this one takes that material to the next level. I add skills to help someone who is grieving come to face the presence of their loss with tenderness and allow all the feelings that come flooding in with love and awareness
Mindfulness and the Grief Journey September 22nd, 2018 10am to 3pm Bayview School, 5611 Bayview Road, Langley, WA
"Coming home to grief is sacred work, a powerful practice that contains what the indigenous soul knows and what the spiritual traditions teach: we are all connected to one another. Our fates are bound together in a mysterious but recognizable way. Grief registers the many ways this depth of kinship is assaulted daily. Grief work becomes a core element in our ability to sustain and maintain the well-being of our communities. It is a central means whereby our compassion is quickened and our mutual suffering acknowledged. It is also a form of soul protest, our wholehearted response to acts of violence and oppression.” Francis Weller, The Wild Edge of Sorrow: Rituals of Renewal and the Sacred Work of Grief
The tendency in our culture is to move away from grief, to try to “get over it” or move on without giving full attention and presence to the feelings and experience of grief. Grief changes our lives, and ultimately with awareness and soul tending transforms us.
You are invited to spend the day journaling, wandering in nature, sharing feelings, and learning about grief and yourself. We will practice mindfulness tools that are particularly supportive for grief. You will have an opportunity to share your story and spend time in quiet reflection.
Fee: $75; 8—10 participants. A limited number will make this a more intimate and powerful experience Register by contacting Charlene at email@example.com
Living Out Loud
“If you ask me what I came to do in this world, I, an artist, will answer you: I am here to live out loud.” —Émile Zola, Writer
What does it mean to live out loud? When I read the quote by Emile Zola, I think of being seen, making myself visible in the world by first understanding who I am and what I have to come to this world to do, and then by doing whatever it takes to get out there and do it. In some ways it sounds simple, but it can be complex and take great courage to do. I love teaching this workshop! I taught a version of it called “Listen to the Longing” earlier this year. It is about listening to the longing of the soul and then stepping out into the world to live that longing. This workshop goes one step further and asks you to be loud about it. Get out there and play the game of life full on. What do you have to lose? It’s the only life you have to live.
